Life has this habit of sneaking up on you. One day you’re in your teens and feeling invincible and the next day you look in the mirror and don’t recognize the person looking back at you.
The many things you once did with ease and no consequences have you approaching with great caution, if at all.
There’s a principle in biologic systems called entropy which in simple terms is the natural progression of all things to breakdown.
How to Combat Entropy!
There’s no avoiding aging but there are a lot of things you can do to slow it down. There is a lot of talk these days about extending life longer and longer. When I look around at a lot of older people I don’t think of that as a goal of mine.
However, there is another concept that I think is well worth your time and effort. It is called Health Extension, living as healthy and functional as possible for as long as possible.
A brilliant physician that I follow has a concept he calls the Octogenarian Olympics. These are all the daily functions he thinks you should be able to do in the last decade or two of life. Things like carrying groceries up a flight of stairs, getting down and up from the floor unassisted, lifting a 25 pound weight overhead, walking a mile or more.
The Surprising Role of Chiropractic in Health
Here’s a really quick explanation of what chiropractic does independent of neck pain, back pain, etc.
The central control and coordination system of the body is the nervous system. The brain extends down the spine with the spinal cord and sends nerves to every organ and tissue of the body.
When spinal bones become stuck or misaligned it causes stress on the nervous system and results in some disturbance wherever the nerves from that area go.
Anytime you have excess stress, tension, or interference to your nervous system there is a negative impact on how your body functions. You likely won’t experience pain for a long time but it might result in a range of impacts like:
- More tension and tightness
- Reduced sleep quality
- Greater stress
- Reduced immune response
Over time these spinal misalignments result in permanent changes to both the soft tissues and the bones resulting in scar tissue and the development of degenerative arthritis.
What Does Corrective Chiropractic Offer You?
Chiropractic care really has one and only one objective and that is to remove or correct any source of nervous system interference. It really doesn’t seek to fix you but rather to allow your body to return to a state of balance where the body is capable of doing amazing things.
Without nervous system interference the nervous system and the body are better able to:
- Monitor all that is happening in the body and respond
- Regulate all body functions from heart rate to blood pressure to digestion to hormonal balance to immune function, and more.
- Heal and repair the continual damage that occurs in the course of daily life.
And, yes quality corrective chiropractic care will get you out of pain faster than physical therapy but what it will do that physical therapy is not capable of is greatly reduce the likelihood of opiate use for pain management.
Chiropractic is the only approach documented to correct spinal joint dysfunction. Other approaches focus on the tight muscles or exercise. Neither of these address the underlying spinal joint misalignments.
Instead of limiting your search to a Google “chiropractor” or “chiropractor near me” consider getting really clear on what it is you are looking for in a healthcare provider in general and more specifically a chiropractor.
