Don’t get me wrong, I use Google and other search engines to find professionals and other business services. But, I’m always amazed when someone calls my office after having done a search for “chiropractor grass valley”, “chiropractor”, or “chiropractor near me”.
Will those searched yield results? Absolutely, they will give you a huge list. And, if that is the extent of how selective you are with who you trust your body with, then you have a list to go off of.
My suggestion is that you get clear on what you are looking for. If you have had really positive experiences with chiropractors my suggestion is that you draw from those experiences to help find the best chiropractor for you.
Create a list of what made those chiropractic experiences positive for you. Try to get as specific as possible.
On the other hand if you have had negative experiences with chiropractors use those experiences to help you avoid duplicating that. Make a list of what it is that you don’t want to experience with your next chiropractor.
Here is a list of a few questions you might ask your next chiropractor. This might also help you formulate some of your own questions:
1. How long in practice?
(Gives experience) After having spent almost 40 years in practice I personally would want someone with enough experience that they know how to handle whatever comes their way.
2. As the doctor, How often do you get adjusted? Your family?
(Obviously, if the Doctor recommends less care for you than for his/her own family that isn’t right. You should be treated like family.) I get adjusted regularly and have for many years. I wouldn’t trust a chiropractor who doesn’t live by his own recommendations.
3. Do you hold to the “straight” philosophy of chiropractic?
(This is subluxation only care. Good quality care.) This is the application of pure chiropractic and is an indication of the doctor’s commitment to excellence.
4. What is a subluxation?
This is THE imbalance that a true chiropractor looks to find and correct as it is the source of nervous system stress and interference.
5. What is your typical maintenance care visit schedule?
You want a practice where a large percentage of people have found so much value in chiropractic care that they use it to maintain health after getting out of pain.
6. Do you give nutritional advice?
If “YES” –Do you sell those products? (Can be a conflict of interest.) While I have a couple of certificates in functional medicine the focus of my practice is chiropractic.
7. What techniques do you use?
Do they use their hands, drop tables, and instruments? While I prefer to use my hands I have everything since different people respond differently.
8. How long do you intend to practice chiropractic?
(Shows their intent.) (Should be for life if they really enjoy chiropractic!!) I’m in my 40th year of practice and while I see fewer people than I did years ago I continue to find great purpose in helping people express greater health.
9. How long is the typical office visit?
(How long will you be in the office every time?) If an office visit is focused on the identification and correction of the subluxation it shouldn’t take 30 minutes. I think you want someone who runs on time and has a streamlined office visit.
