The Test / Retest Method of Resolving Your Pain

I want to share with you the exact Method, the exact approach that I use at Life Chiropractic to help our clients that has changed my life, and changed my pain. I want you to have access to it and see if this approach makes sense to you.

I’ll admit that at one point in time I was one of those chiropractors who used a more consistent “treatment” each and every visit. When I was in school this was the system or really the lack of a “system”.

It Shouldn’t Be the Same Treatment Visit After Visit!

Maybe you’ve been to chiropractors or physical therapists who did the same or almost the exact same treatment each and every visit. And, they did this without bothering to check if it was working or even if it was necessary.

The Typical System in most Chiropractic and Physical Therapy offices looks something like this:

  • Someone comes in with a complaint and pain – neck pain, headaches, back pain, etc.
  • They get put on electric stimulation or heat or a vibration table, etc.
  • They move from there to the same identical adjustments or cookie cutter exercises each visit.
  • Rinse and repeat each visit.

What’s missing?

First, much of what is being done has absolutely no basis in resolving the pain, helping someone heal, and returning them to the life they love.

What’s missing is that nothing is being done each and every visit to evaluate how they are progressing and how what is being done is working.

After all, if it isn’t working then why continue doing it?

If it is working then it still should be tweaked, refined, added to in order to improve the results.

This does not help someone who has been suffering for weeks, months, maybe even years.

This IS NOT what I consider to be quality personalized care!

Long ago I made a promise to myself. This was not the type of care that I would want to receive and not the care that I would offer my clients.

Rather, I sought to develop a refined approach that would allow me to help most people in the shortest time possible by:

  • Identifying how their body was out of balance
  • Identify what the likely major imbalance is
  • Be able to determine ahead of time if correcting that imbalance was the key
  • Checking before AND after each adjustment IF we were successful in correcting the imbalance and…
  • Did that correction maintain itself until the next visit?

Why did I do this?

First, it is what I insist on for my own care.

Second,  because you need a specific, unique approach to your pain, your imbalances, and your concerns.

And, that was the beginning of me developing the “Test/Retest Treat and Assess MethodTMthat has changed the entire approach for all of my clients.

Rarely does a day go by without someone commenting how detailed my care is in comparison to their prior experiences with other chiropractors.

Let me share how this has recently worked with a client Linda.

She and her husband had recently moved to the area looking for a new chiropractor. They had both been under chiropractic care for years. In fact a good friend of hers at her prior home was a chiropractor.

Yet, despite regular chiropractic from a trusted friend she continued to experience daily constant headaches and was on multiple neurological medications.

I didn’t do anything revolutionary!

But, what I did was check her body each visit and apply a very gentle and very specific adjustment as well as give her some simple movements to help support her office care.

Fast forward a few months and fewer than 10 visits and she is off all medications and has not experienced a single headache in weeks.

Here’s how it works:

  • Each visit I check in with her to find out how she’s doing
  • Then I check her spine looking for any imbalances
  • With any imbalance I simply test for the specific adjustment that will help return her to greater balance.
  • After the adjustment I recheck to see if we were successful in restoring greater balance to her spine, her nervous system, and her muscles.

With Linda this has often been some very gentle adjustments to restore balance to the upper neck. But, the focus has always been her entire spine. While her primary issue is headaches I don’t want to limit my focus to the area where it hurts.

We follow the adjustment with some gentle reinforcement of spinal motion, a review of what she needs to follow up on her own, and a plan looking forward.

She has been completely taken aback as she had assumed that her reliance on drugs was unlikely to change and she never expected her headaches to change so dramatically.

This is how ALL your care should be conducted.

It should be personalized to YOU and it should be personalized each and every visit. After all, if something is working then there should be a time that it doesn’t need to be repeated. And, if it is not working then why the heck would you want to repeat it?

If you are not testing everything then you are simply making a blind guess on what will work. Maybe, it’s an educated guess but it’s a guess all the same.

I wanted to eliminate as much guesswork as possible.

Why is this so important?

Because in order to correct your pain we need to do a few really important things:

  1. Identify the imbalances
  2. Find the cause of the imbalance!

Hint: the cause is almost always NOT where the pain is!

  1. Correct what appears to be the cause
  2. Retest to see if balance has been restored

Then on the next visit we want to check and see if things are in more balance than they were the prior visit.

That’s the power of something as simple and logical as the “Test/Retest Treat and Assess MethodTM.
