Science and healthcare has made great strides. There are amazing advancements that save many people each and every day.
We’ve been lulled into thinking that we can hand responsibility for our health to our doctors. After all they know the most and have our best interests. Well, maybe, maybe not.
Here is a bit to think about before we move on:
- The US continues to rank 11th behind other industrialized countries. The United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, France, and Canada ALL rank ahead of the United States. This is last among the industrialized countries.
- It’s not for lack of money as the US spends more per capita on healthcare, totalling $8500 per person. The next closest is Norway at $5700 per person.
- In the US an estimated 250,000 deaths per year occur as a result of the practice of medicine. These are called iatrogenic.
US HEALTHCARE IS PROFIT DRIVE AND CAPTURED BY DRUG INDUSTRY
Just look at the pharmaceutical industry. The US is estimated to spend $635 Billion on medicine in 2025. Think about almost every prescription drug. They are not designed to solve a problem after a short dosage. No, they are designed to be taken on an ongoing basis forever.
If that isn’t a recipe for tremendous profits I’m not sure what is. Take high blood pressure. There is little effort to solve the puzzle of hypertension. After a few years most people with high blood pressure are taking 2 or 3 different medications to “manage” their hypertension.
Don’t for a minute believe that these companies are ethical and have your health in mind. They have one goal, to turn as large a profit as possible.
Here are a few scary statistics:
- Johnson and Johnson has been found in violation 45 times and fined $24.5 Billion in penalties.
- Pfizer has been fined $3.2 Billion.
MANAGING YOUR BIOLOGY IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
Every time a new patient comes to see me at Life Chiropractic in Grass Valley I will ask them about their other healthcare providers. When it comes to their family physicians more often than not they are not supportive of the quality of care they receive.
One recent new patient last week had this to say about her primary care: “Oh, he’s worthless.”
There are plenty of quality physicians out there. The challenge is first finding them and then using them correctly.
YOUR DOCTOR WORKS FOR YOU
These days you have as much information at your fingers as your doctor does. Do your own research. Ask questions.
If you watch TV you know that at the end of each drug commercial they describe a horrific list of possible complications known to arise from that drug.
Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.
BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE
You need to care more about your health than anyone else. Because no one else can care as much as you.
- Ask questions of your healthcare provider, things like:
- What are the risks of treatment?
- What percentage of people get well with this course of care?
- What alternatives are there?
- What is the cause of my problem?
- Are there any other types of providers you can refer me to?
- Is there a safer or more natural alternative?
- What can I do to prevent this from recurring?
TEND TO THE GARDEN OF YOUR HEALTH
One of my mentors in an interview was asked for his response as to why many people continue to use chiropractic on an ongoing wellness basis.
His response was that there is nothing that supports your expression of health that doesn’t need to be done regularly. Some are daily, some weekly, and some monthly. But, everything that supports your health is a practice that needs to be repeated regularly. Some examples:
- Health Diet: needs to be almost every day
- Movement and Exercise: 4 to 7 times a week
- Drinking plenty of Water: daily
- Quality Sleep: daily
- Healthy relationships
- Wellness Chiropractic: minimum monthly
- Massage: monthly
You get to choose what your self-care practices are. Just understand that for anything to have a long term positive impact it needs to be done on an ongoing basis.
If you live in Nevada County and are interested in corrective chiropractic care to support your expression of health consider scheduling a visit with Life Chiropractic in Grass Valley.
